The 2013 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class is big, rugged, and handsome — and it’s also something of a throwback to the days when V8 engines ruled American highways. The GL 350 does come with a turbo-diesel V6 but the German automaker expects to sell more of the GL450 with its big 4.7-liter V8, which manages 17 miles per gallon in the city and 21 on the highway. The GL is also equipped with a suite of the latest active safety features, including systems that help drivers see at night, activate the brakes if he isn’t isn’t paying attention, and even keep the big SUV in the proper lane and park in a variety of parking spaces. Prices for the GL-Class start at $62,400.
