San Diego to Los Angeles, 1984 / Relo Rating: 2
The 1970 NBA expansion Buffalo Braves were never able to get a foothold in chilly Western New York State and Southern Ontario, so in 1978 ownership schlepped the team to sunny San Diego. Problem … not solved. Fan interest in the NBA had stagnated, and folks in San Diego preferred to do pretty much anything other than watch their sad-sack hoops team lose. So the Clips set sail for LA in 1984. Problem … still not solved, thanks to the many fan-unfriendly decisions of owner Donald Sterling, who bought the team in the late 1970s, much to the consternation of anybody who prefers their team ownership to be reasonably admirable. While the club have recently started to right itself on the court, thanks to superstars Blake Griffin and Chris Paul, it will take at least an NBA title to lose the stink of decades-long mismanagement.
