When Crooks, Lankow, and Ritchie began collaborating in 2007 the goal was to promote their own small businesses, a men’s clothing design company and retail boutique, with a website focused on fashion, music and design. “We dove into the social media and online publishing world to understand what kind of content would appeal to people,” says Crooks of the now shuttered website, TheLandSalmon.com
Without formal training in design – they studied business, cultural anthropology and history, respectively – the trio quickly graduated from being students of social media and visualization to experts. In 2008, financial site Mint.com reached out for help with its own content strategy, and a new business venture was born. The image shown here was created for Mint.com.
