Automotive components are a frequent target of counterfeiters’ efforts; the website of manufacturer ACDelco warns consumers that fake car parts are out there and can take a toll on vehicle safety and longevity. Fake spark plugs, brake shoes, oil filters and other parts that a consumer has to replace over the course of owning a vehicle can all be unwittingly installed, sometimes to disastrous end: brake pads made of sawdust or the like may look like the real thing, but can catch fire or disintegrate upon use.
