The sweat is real, but the class itself is fake. Earlier this year, Zumba Fitness LLC filed five lawsuits against gym owners who were offering its Latin-themed cardio dance classes without proper licenses. The company says it intends to file more lawsuits both in the U.S. and around the world, and it’s also gone after eBay sellers who hawk bootlegged copies of the dance videos. The home fitness industry is fertile ground for counterfeiters; just last week, a California man was fined and sent to federal prison for importing and trying to sell 2,300 fake Ab Circle Pro machines.
