LG Electronics, under the Goldstar and Comfort-Aire brands, sold about 100,000 dehumidifiers in 2007 and 2008 that were blamed in numerous house fires. They were first recalled in December 2009 after 11 incidents, including four “significant” fires. They were recalled again last year after another 16 units caught on fire and only 2% of consumers who purchased one had requested the free repair. The recalled units are Goldstar model GHD30Y7, sold at Home Depot; and DH305Y7, sold at Walmart; and Comfort-Aire BHD-301-C, sold at Ace Hardware and other do-it-yourself stores.
