Asthma, especially in kids, can be exacerbated by the cold, dry air of winter. Check the expiration dates and the amount of medication remaining in rescue inhalers belonging to any asthmatic family members, so you’re not one of the 679,000 people who has to take a kid to the ER for their asthma annually. Even if you have insurance, an emergency room visit can be expensive. Nearly 20% of us have ER co-pays of more than $125, according to PricewaterhouseCoopers.
