Many corporations speak fondly of their corporate culture or the set of values it tries to instill in its workers. But Walmart really does have a culture in and of itself. Its once famous 7:30 a.m. Saturday meetings may no longer be weekly, but Walmart proved successful at instilling an entrepreneurial spirit and decentralized management style even as it became one of the largest corporations in the world. Much of the strength of this message can be attributed to the company’s founder, Sam Walton, but its success even after the founder’s death in 1992 has been an inspiration to countless would-be imitators.
