With more than 900 technology companies based in New York City, the startup scene in the Big Apple is thriving. To celebrate the most innovative companies in the city we call home, editors from Time Inc. brands — including TIME, FORTUNE, CNNMoney.com, PEOPLE, Sports Illustrated, Entertainment Weekly, InStyle, and Real Simple — have scoured NYC’s technology scene to identify the ten most promising startups the city has to offer. What follows is a click-through gallery of the startups that made the list.
First, however, we’ll take this opportunity to brag about the success of a few past honorees: Stamped, which was selected last year, was Marissa Mayer’s first acquisition at Yahoo!; eyewear e-retailer Warby Parker, a 2011 honoree, recently opened a flagship retail store in New York City and is reportedly in talks with Google to bring its hip sensibility to Google Glass; and Fab, another 2012 honoree, now boasts 10 million members and is reportedly valued at $1 billion.
In other words, keep an eye on these companies.
