A Chinese automaker backed by uber-billionaire Warren Buffet’s holding company plans to introduce four hybrid models in the United States by the end of 2015.
The automaker BYD Co. said last week that the flagship model will likely be a plug-in hybrid called the Qin, named after the dynasty founded by the emperor who unified China, and will feature headlights inspired by Chinese calligraphy brushstroke, Bloomberg reports.
BYD Co. has seen its profits stumble as it reorganized the company away from a hemorrhaging solar cell business, but it has restructured and already sells electric buses to fleet operators in the U.S. A subsidiary of Buffet’s Berkeshire Hathaway bought a 9.9 percent stake in the company in 2009.
