Time Warner Cable will announce Thursday that it will carry Al Jazeera America, a boon for the new Qatar-owned broadcaster struggling to draw larger numbers, The New York Times reports.

The cable operator, one of the nation’s largest, will add the channel for its New York and Los Angeles households this year, and for other markets by March 2014.

The deal will boost the broadcaster’s exposure to a total of 54 million of the 100 million satellite and cable subscribers, according to Al Jazeera America’s interim chief executive. It’s the first deal Al Jazeera has made since initially replacing Current TV two months ago.
