S&P 500 Hits Record High After Debt Ceiling Deal

Trading follows deal in Congress to avert default

The S&P 500 hit a new intra-day high Thursday, a day after Congress voted to reopen the government and avert a default by raising the debt ceiling.

The index was trading at $1,733 shortly before markets closed.

The Nasdaq was also up 0.41 percent, and the Dow Jones dipped slightly, by 0.17 percent.
