Walmart will bring on 55,000 new seasonal employees to assist with the holiday shopping season, The Wall Street Journal reports.  In addition to those new temporary hires, the behemoth retailer says it will turn 35,000 part timers into full-time employees and make more than 35,000 temporary workers into part timers.

The biggest retailer in the world, Walmart employed nearly 2.2 million people worldwide as of January 31 this year, including more than 1.3 million people in the U.S. alone, the Journal reports.

Walmart has reportedly struggled to meet investor expectations in recent quarters, as its core shopper demographic—low income customers—have been hit by high gasoline prices, high unemployment, and the end of the payroll tax holiday.
