The World Series ended just a couple of days ago. But in light of how few viewers watched the San Francisco Giant’s relatively undramatic 4–0 sweep of the Tigers, and how this week’s epic storm has dominated headlines, the Series probably seems like ancient history. But don’t put baseball on the backburner of your brain just yet. Why? Free tacos!

Thanks to a special “Steal a Taco” promotion sponsored by Major League Baseball sponsor Taco Bell, every customer is entitled to one free Doritos Locos Taco at participating locations on Tuesday, October 30, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Despite the name, it’s not necessary to steal a taco or commit any crime to join in on the freebies. Instead, the promotion was activated last Thursday, during the second game of the World Series. In the eighth inning, Giants’ outfielder Angel Pagan stole second base. Per the terms of Taco Bell’s giveaway promotion, Pagan’s aggressive base-running meant that the chain would soon be giving away Doritos Locos Tacos to all customers. That day has come today.

The taco retails for around $1.29, so this isn’t the most amazing giveaway ever. But considering how insanely popular Doritos Locos Tacos have become with the public in a very short period, this may be a freebie grab for the ages.

By winning the World Series, each of the Giants players should expect a bonus in the neighborhood of a couple hundred thousand dollars. (Last year, St. Louis Cardinals’ players got $323K apiece. So it’s not like Pagan needs any taco handouts.

Nonetheless, Pagan was quite excited after his stealing of second base triggered the national giveaway. After the game, he was quoted:

“I love Taco Bell, I do,” Pagan said. “Burritos, tacos, you name it. I hope people like it.”

Over 9.4 million people like Taco Bell on Facebook, so yeah, it’s a safe bet that the crowds will like today’s promotion.
