New York Times recently featured specialty design outfits such as La Petite Maison, which build custom doghouses—often smaller replicas of the owner’s main home—for around $5,000, and sometimes for over $25,000. (Several U.S. cities, interestingly enough, have had hot markets for homes for under $10,000—homes for humans, that is.) The dogs who these digs are supposedly built for almost universally ignore the homes; sadly, many never go inside to enjoy the fine craftsmanship and painstaking attention to detail. Perhaps a sleek, luxurious $3,500 chicken coop is a better use of money?
