An ecommerce site can be a terrific source of revenue for a small business, but the right design is critical to success. Jay Melone, CEO of DigitalXBridge, offers this advice for choosing an ecommerce site designer.
Find a good fit: Need a large-scale technology platform? A solo freelancer probably can’t deliver the job in a reasonable amount of time. Conversely, agencies with Fortune 50 clients are likely too pricey for startups. Start by asking agencies about their typical project budget.
Educate the designer: Many agencies serve dozens of clients across as many industries. Provide background on your trade so that they can provide an accurate estimate and design what you want.
Keep an open mind and be flexible: You may have spent years preparing a business plan. Prepare for that to bend and sway as your product is built and your customers use it. Pay attention to what’s working, refine and prepare to pivot.
