A little while ago, it was user-review specialist Yelp encroaching on Groupon’s turf with its test move selling coupons for a single day that grant special discounts at local businesses. Now, old-school coupon veteran Valpak—you know, the business that mails those blue envelopes filled with coupons for local businesses—is entering the daily deal market, promising discounts of 45% or more.

Actually, Valpak isn’t entirely old school. It does have an smartphone app listing coupons good for finding coupons wherever you live. And now, per today’s announcement, Valpak enters the rapidly-growing daily deal group-buying market with the new service ValpakDeals.com:

For all those who aspire to relax all weekend at the spa, dine at swanky restaurants and look like a movie star – yet still need to change the oil in the family car, arrange for lawn service and stick to a budget, ValpakDeals.com will soon save the day… and save you money.

No deals are available yet, so it’s difficult to compare its discounts with Groupon, LivingSocial, and other group-discount sites. Here’s how things are expected to progress:

ValpakDeals.com launches November 2010 in Long Island, N.Y., Omaha, Neb., New Haven, Conn., and Las Vegas, and will expand across the Valpak franchise network during 2011.
