There’s a new king of Spotify. “Wake Me Up,” the hit dance song by Swedish DJ Avicii is now the most-streamed song ever on the music service. The track, released as a single during the summer of 2013, has now racked up more than 200 million streams on Spotify. It’s the first record to ever cross that barrier.

“I’m so excited to be the first artist to reach 200 million streams on Spotify,” Avicii said in a statement released via Spotify’s Twitter account. “I’ve had an amazing year, so a massive thanks to all of my fans!”

The track still has plenty of gas left in it, as it’s currently netting more than 3.8 million streams per week globally. Avicii is stealing the crown from Imagine Dragons, whose song “Radioactive” was the previous titleholder. That track currently has more than 180 million streams.

Funny how Aloe Blacc, who did the vocals in the song, didn't even get mentioned in this short article. Gotta be a milestone for him, as well.

And at the current pace, this "Happy" song will past Avcii by, oh...Monday or so.

I'd be curious to know how well he was compensated for all that... probably not much.

"Hey Brother", "You Make Me" and "Wake Me Up"... Avicii has hit on the same winning concept as Moby once did: people clearly love trance-ified american folk.
