The Taiwanese manufacturer for global tech firms including Apple and Tesla is planning to build a plant in the U.S.

Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., better known by its trade name Foxconn, would relocate capital-intensive and high-tech manufacturing to the U.S. where it would build liquid display screens larger than 60 inches, depending on feasibility studies, the Wall Street Journal reports. Company chairman Terry Gou made the announcement Sunday at the company’s 40th anniversary.

Taiwan-based Foxconn is one of the leading technology manufacturers in the world, assembling Apple’s iPhones and iPads and displays for U.S. electric car maker Tesla. It has production sites in more than 10 countries including China, Vietnam, Turkey and Mexico.

The company has faced rising labor costs and workplace disputes in China, where it employs more than a million workers. Shipping large display screens to the U.S. from Asia has become increasingly difficult, Gou said Sunday.
