After a mostly lackluster holiday season for retailers, the time has arrived for stores to get serious about unloading the goods they failed to sell weeks ago.
The seemingly endless “Black Friday” sales have come and gone, and the “after Christmas” deals have passed as well. But apparently, plenty of retailers are still rolling in inventory that they’re more than eager to get rid of, at bargain-basement prices if necessary.
Accordingly, sales that are as good or better than what we saw on Black Friday and Cyber Monday have popped up at many retailers—apparel sellers especially, which have to make room for spring merchandise in a hurry. For example, Jos. A. Bank, the men’s apparel specialist involved in a takeover squabble with competitor Men’s Wearhouse, decided that now is the time for a sale that blows away the promotions offered throughout the prime holiday shopping season. Through Friday, January 3, nearly all suits, blazers, and outerwear are being discounted by 70%, and customers get 75% off a second item and 80% off a third choice. Free shipping is available on all orders too, no minimum purchase required.
Likewise, apparel retailers like Gap and Coldwater Creek are currently hosting across-the-board discounts on par with the best deals seen on Cyber Monday—sitewide markdowns on all merchandise of at least 40% and 50% off, respectively.

Aeropostale: Now through January 5, use the code EXTRA30 and take off an extra 30% of merchandise already marked down on clearance. The result is a deal like hoodies starting at $8.99.
Children’s Place: Up to 80% off a wide range of items on clearance, including kids fleece hats and pants starting at around $3.
J. Crew: Through January 7, use the code SHOPHAPPY for an extra 40% off all items already on sale.
Lacoste: During its semi-annual sale, apparel and accessories for kids, men, and women are discounted by up to 50%.
Lands’ End: Take 50% off most outerwear for the whole family, through January 5.
Levi’s: Markdowns of up to 50% off are available on a wide range of goods, plus get an extra 25% off sale items with the code NEWYEAR25, valid through January 6.
Sports Authority: 40% to 70% off clearance items, and especially remarkable deals on older models featured in its Ski and Snowboard Yard Sale—like $70 for ski boots that originally sold for $300.

Target: Hundreds of items have been freshly placed in the clearance section, with discounts of up to 60%.
