Hulu will hit $1 billion in revenue for 2013, CEO Mike Hopkins said Wednesday. That amounts to a 43 percent jump in receipts for the subscription and ad-funded streaming video content company, which launched in 2008.

In a blog post, Hopkins also noted that the company reached the 5-million subscriber mark in 2013, more than double the number of subscribers it had in 2011, and up roughly 60 percent from 2012. Fifty percent of those subscribers watch the service exclusively on non-PC devices, like Apple TVs or game consoles that can connect to television sets.

2013 was also a landmark year for the company in terms of original content. Hopkins said Hulu launched 20 original shows this year, many of which were popular with users. “The AwesomesBehind the Mask and The Wrong Mans performed extremely well on the service,” Hopkins said, “and were among the top 10 most-watched shows on Hulu each week a new episode aired.”
