An Indiana man says he was fired from his job as general manager of a Pizza Hut restaurant for refusing to stay open on Thanksgiving, CNBC reports.

Ton Rohr, who oversees the Pizza Hut in Elkhart, Ind., said he was unexpectedly ordered to stay open, and was fired when he refused.

Pizza Hut did not respond to requests for comment from CNBC.

“They just said it was a competitive decision and that everyone was open, so we will be too,” Rohr said. “I said, ‘Why can’t we be the company that stands up and says we care about our employees, and let them have the day off?’ “
