Apple announced plans to open a new manufacturing plant in Mesa, Arizona on Monday. It will convert an existing plant formerly used to make thin-film solar panels, which was previously owned by First Solar, according to My Fox Pheonix.

The move is the company’s latest effort to create more jobs in the U.S. The plants employees are set to make parts for the company, though the company did not specify the product. “We are proud to expand our domestic manufacturing initiative with a new facility in Arizona, creating more than 2,000 jobs in engineering, manufacturing and construction,” said Kristin Huguet, a spokeswoman for Apple. “This new plant will make components for Apple products and it will run on 100 percent renewable energy from day one.”

The tech company will reportedly pay $578 million to GT Advanced Technologies, which will provide equipment that can make materials out of sapphire, which is often used in various components of smartphones. The plant is set to create 2,000 jobs—700 within the facility and 1,300 in construction and other positions in the state.
