It was 2011 — what was J.C. Penney thinking? After a media furor, the department store stopped selling a girls’ t-shirt printed with the saying, “I’m too pretty to do homework so my brother has to do it for me.” The store’s website called it “cute and sassy,” but outraged parents thought otherwise. J.C. Penney isn’t the only store that’s had to apologize after selling clothing with foot-in-mouth slogans, though. After a social media outcry, Kmart’s Australian division had to pull underpants marketed to teenage girls that said things like “I [heart] rich boys.”
