Data from the first view days of holiday shopping this year suggest that having a mobile-friendly web presence is becoming hugely important.

According to Compuware APM, mobile traffic for Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday was up a whopping 250% over last year. The message is simple for almost any business: If your website isn’t optimized for mobile users, you’re at risk of losing out on the fastest-growing segment of online commerce.

A previous study reported that more than 80% of small businesses that implement mobile marketing techniques report an increase in new business, so the early holiday shopping data suggest that mobile will become even more critical for businesses in the months and years ahead.

So make sure your website is optimized for mobile users and that contact and ordering information are in a prominent place. Be sure to include a phone number and your address – that can help local customers find you. Make it clear what products and services you offer, and make sure the same information is reflected on your social media profiles and pages. And monitor mentions of your business in social media and on the Web.

And make sure your website loads fast for mobile users. More than ever, your business depends on it.
