You have to hand it to Amazon: The e-retail giant knows how to drag out a shopping season. Its Black Friday promotions didn’t start a mere day, or even a week early, but 24 days before the Friday after Thanksgiving. While most stores limited their Cyber Monday sales to the actual Monday in question, Amazon has been promoting the heck out of an entire Cyber Monday Deals Week. Now, another week of Amazon deals has begun, like clockwork.

Guess what happened after last week ended? Yep, another week of special discounts. It’s like “Groundhog Day,” but with loads of mystifying gadgets you probably don’t need, and a hangover in the form of hefty credit card bills.

Amazon announced last week that a new sales strategy called “Flurry Deals” would start on Sunday. The idea is that each day, a different category of merchandise will be discounted, typically by 50% or more on select items.

On Sunday, for instance, the focus was gift ideas for Dads: The day’s deals centered on Sports & Outdoors merchandise. Tuesday is another Dad-dy day (Tools & Home Improvement), and the categories for the rest of the week range from Video Games (Monday) to Movies & TV (Wednesday), to Toys & Games (Thursday), Electronics (Friday), and Shoes & Accessories (Saturday).

Amazon will continue to prime consumers to shop with advanced notice about which categories will be discounted on what days throughout the holiday season. Specifics on exact merchandise and model info and price won’t be revealed in advance, though Amazon is giving some hints in the previews. For Wednesday, Amazon promises that customers will be able to “Save over 60% off thousands of DVDs and Blu-rays.”
