Today, Magnolia Mansion is a bed & breakfast hotel that seems to be haunted by friendly spirits. One such spirit is called “The Caretaker,” who often pulls the bed covers up over guests (“sleep tight … don’t let the vampires bite”) or lightly strokes their cheeks, and sometimes sits at the foot of the bed.
Other cheerful ghosts include a bearded man in a black suit standing in the parlors and walking in the upstairs hallway, and younger, mischievous spirits who leave tiny hand prints in the bathroom tubs and bath mats, bounce on the beds, whisper “hello” and like to play with the guests’ phones and shoes.
Magnolia Mansion is for sale at $3,200,000. It is on a double lot in the city’s Garden District with 11 Corinthian columns that support a massive wrap-around Veranda, 13 bedrooms, 13 full bathrooms, two half bathrooms, two event bathrooms, a ground-floor banquet area and three courtyards. It is zoned for commercial use so it can continue to be operated as a bed & breakfast, or it could be converted back to a beautiful Southern family estate. The ghosts are not included in the sale.
