Fake Deals: Why Borders’ Going-Out-of-Business ‘Sales’ Are a Joke

“Going-out-of-business” sales go hand-in-hand with the ongoing closings of store locations for chains like Borders, Blockbuster, and Ultimate Electronics. But in many cases, it looks like the word sale only means that the stores have items for sale—not on sale, for but for sale, with no discount whatsoever.

The Consumerist offers some examples of liquidation sales that only a fool would buy—merchandise marked down by 20% (when it’s easy to regularly get the same item for 40% off online), and even a TV listed with a whopping limited-time, act-now-or-regret-it discount of 0%.
