During a post-Labor Day sale from JetBlue Airways, discounted flights include one-way fares starting at $39 between Fort Lauderdale and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, $49 (Boston to Charlotte, Long Beach to Las Vegas), $69 (New York-JFK to Jacksonville), $79 (Long Beach to Portland, OR, New York-JFK to Orlando or West Palm Beach), and $99 (Boston or New York to Bermuda). Tickets must be purchased by September 9, a one-week advance purchase is required, and all travel must be completed by December 15.
What I wonder is when prices will be lower for the Northern coast airports, currently the highest ones in the Dominican Republic. Some people traveling to the North are taking flights to the East, a tiresome 8 hour drive ( from PUJ to POP ). There`s talks about 2 new cruise ship ports that will tilt the balance towards these two destinations, from two major cruise lines, Carnival and Royal Caribbean http://goldenkeymanagement.com/blogengine.net/post/2012/11/21/Royal-Caribbean-Cruises-Promoting-New-Port-in-Samana-Meets-President-Medina.aspx
but still Puerto Plata needs better and fairer conditions for more airlines to compete with SDQ and PUJ. New president Medina might be the key, let`s hope so.
Jet Blue has expanded its flights to the Dominican Republic, now having a daily flight to Puerto Plata and Samana, on the island`s North coast.
