Who Needs to Pay Movers or Rent a Truck When You’ve Got Friends and the Subway?

One New York City resident recently relocated from Flushing, Queens, to a one-bedroom apartment on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, and while that may represent a “moving on up” change, he moved his stuff—dishes, stand-alone closet, linens, window A/C unit, a 40-lb. bag of rice, and more—on the subway. And yes, he had to transfer from the 7 Train to the 1 Train in Times Square.

The New York magazine blog post featuring the tale of 24-year-old Young Min—certainly a cheapskate for the ages—reveals that while the move may have cost a mere $2 for the subway ride, Min’s buddies weren’t game for helping him after the initial train trip:

The next day, when he called for help moving his bed, again on the subway, his friends didn’t return his calls and one even skipped their Kaplan class in order to avoid getting roped into another move.

Apparently, Min lost some friends while saving some money. That’s a risk all tightwads must consider before deciding to not open their wallets.
