One theory: Because parents don’t want to buy their kids real hamsters.
Some parents own up to pushing Zhu Zhus on their children because Mom and Dad don’t want actual live hamsters in their homes, per the LA Times. Also, parents admit to jumping on the Zhu Zhu hype bandwagon and buying them strictly because they’re so hard to find, not because their kids are dying to have one.
And fyi, if you paid through the nose to get a Zhu Zhu Pet on eBay or Craigslist, you may have wasted your money. As Consuming Interests reports, Toys R Us and Wal-Mart have plenty of Zhu Zhus in stock this week.
