Don’t Even Think About Letting Mother Nature Dry Your Clothes

Everyone is in favor of practices that save money and are good for the environment, right? Actually, no. Turns out your neighbors may not approve.

The NY Times reports that the majority of private communities in the U.S. ban clotheslines, the free, old-fashioned, and environmentally friendly alternative to using a dryer. Apparently, residents of many private communities, including some trailer parks, don’t like to see other people’s laundry, dirty or otherwise. Redneck bias?

Lawmakers in several states have overridden local bans on clothelines, and several more states have legislation in the works to let people dry clothes as they please, and cut down on energy consumption in the process.
