The Toilet Paper Wars

This is a sensitive issue. Quite literally. Americans prefer soft—really soft—toilet paper. That kind of toilet paper uses very little recycled paper, and so it has been targeted as wasteful by environmentalists. Trees are being felled unnecessarily for the sake of your precious behind, they charge. Are consumers going to buy greener T.P. to help the earth and save a little money? Or will they continue to pamper themselves with the ultra-plush stuff?

The Washington Post reports on the standoff (sit-off?).

At least one friend of The Cheapskate Blog always defers to the cheap stuff. Edgar Dworsky, founder and editor of Consumer World and a participant in our “What Will a Cheapskate Spend Good Money On” series, had this to say about his choice of toilet paper:

My insensitive *ss can handle anything short of sandpaper. So, single-ply 1000 sheet rolls of whatever brand is in the two or three for $1 price range is fine with me.
