Hardee’s and Carl’s Jr. restaurants are officially throwing down the gauntlet in an Angus burger faceoff with McDonald’s. And the two McDonald’s challengers are putting their money where their wide-open mouths are: Starting next month, any customer saying they prefer McDonald’s Angus offering can receive a refund on the Hardee’s or Carl’s Jr. Angus burger.
McDonald’s has been doing very good business during the recession, and when it recently rolled out its $3.99 Angus burger nationally, CKE, which owns Hardee’s and Carl’s Jr., felt impelled to challenge the fast food clown king. As the WSJ reports:
In September, Hardee’s and Carl’s Jr. restaurants will offer mail-in refunds to customers who claim to like a McDonald’s Angus burger better than a Carl’s Jr. Six Dollar Angus Burger (which actually costs $3.99) or a $3.49 Hardee’s Angus Thickburger.
You gotta love a Six Dollar burger that actually costs $4. That’s recession pricing for you. Bummer that the refund is only available by mail, but it’s better than nothing.
