To boost business in recession-era times, major restaurant chains like Denny’s, T.G.I. Fridays, Applebee’s, and Chili’s have been rolling out discounts and promos over the past few months—$5 specialty sandwiches, two-for-one entrees, free appetizers, and such. If you’re interested in such things, take advantage of these specials while they exist, because they may not be around much longer.

Many franchise owners weren’t happy about these deeply discounted promotions, which made them little money, and so they sometimes pretended that they didn’t exist to get customers to unknowingly pay full price. Now, the WSJ has a story indicating that these discounts haven’t been successful in driving up business anyway, so they could be officially on their way out.
