Big game tonight

I haven’t bloviated about soccer here in an awfully long time. So here goes: Curious Capitalist Jr. and I will be glued to ESPN2 (or maybe our local Univision station) tonight starting at 7 p.m. Eastern to watch the latest installment in what is becoming one of the world’s great soccer rivalries: U.S. vs. Mexico, in a qualifier for the 2010 World Cup. If you have even the remotest interest in the sport, you should check it out too.

The game’s being played in Columbus, Ohio–chosen by the U.S. Soccer Federation because relatively few Mexican-Americans live there (if they played in Houston or L.A. or even Chicago it would feel like a home game for Mexico) and it’s usually really cold there in February. But the temperature right now is 61 degrees and the forecast is for nasty thunderstorms and high winds tonight. Big fun.

Update: The U.S. wins, 2-0, with both goals scored by the coach’s son.
