The good economic news from Jack Black

It was family movie night at the Curious Capitalists, and amid all the economic gloom I feel compelled to point out that a nation that can produce The School of Rock is a nation that cannot kept down for long.

Alas, there’s some irony in your point about “a nation that can produce…,” since The School of Rock movie was clearly a dramatized (and uncompensated, as I understand it) ripoff of Paul Green’s actual School of Rock Music (http://www.schoolofrock.com/index.php ), founded here in Philadelphia and now expanding nicely to other parts of the country. Maybe another movie night could feature the real deal, the documentary Rock School (which concludes with a nice Zappa tribute performance by the students at a Zappafest in Germany) — http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0436727/

Brought to you, of course, by the director of Dazed and Confused, SubUrbia, and Slacker. But truly Joan Cusack transcends everything.

Justin! I heard your interview on WTOP on my way home Friday night. It was really great. I am very impressed at your eloquence, and in particular, compressing so much meaty information into the timeframes imposed by the live radio interview format. Kudos!

Thanks, John! It was very uncomfortable squeezing into your car radio, though.
