He wears red and white on the outside because red and white is how he feels on the inside

This is a bit off topic, but the big news in the world of soccer blogs (and Morrissey blogs) this evening is that English pop melancholist Morrissey was on the sidelines at Thursday night’s Chivas USA-LA Galaxy superclassico (Chivas won 3-0) at the Home Depot Center, wearing a (red and white) Chivas jersey.

It’s decided, then. Major League Soccer is a success.

Apple CEO Cook Gives Up $75M in Stock Dividends

NEW YORK — Apple CEO Tim Cook is giving up $75 million in dividends on restricted stock that the company is awarding to all of its employees.

In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Thursday, Apple Inc. said that Cook requested that his restricted stock units not receive dividends. The dividends that Apple workers are getting amount to $2.65 per quarter for each restricted stock unit held. The shares are not normally eligible to receive dividends, so Apple’s decision is a perk for its employees.

I worry whether he will be able to maintain the posture of tormented existential angst for which he is so justifiably beloved if his team WINS. What sort of catchy pop tunes will that inspire? It troubles a girl, indeed it does. Actually, this could kill MLS. THAT might inspire a good, dark pop song.

“It’s decided, then. Major League Soccer is a success.”

or would be, if Morrisey wasn’t as culturally insignificant as Cyndi Lauper at this point…

When Lauper shows up on the sidelines at Rice-Eccles Stadium, clad in a Real Salt Lake jersey and cheering on Kyle Beckerman (and his dubious dreadlocks), the NFL, NBA and MLB might as well just close up shop.
